The Contraceptive Pill is taken orally once a day and contains two hormones, oestrogen and progestogen. The Pill dissolves in the stomach and the hormones are absorbed into the blood stream. There are a variety of combined Pills available in Australia and packs generally contain hormone pills and sugar pills. A monthly bleed (like a period) occurs when the sugar pills are taken.
