The labia majora are the outer lip-like folds of skin either side of the vaginal opening. They mainly consist of fatty tissue covered in pigmented skin which develops pubic hair during puberty. The labia majora provide protection to the other parts of genitalia lying between them.

Labia majora come in lots of colours, shapes and sizes. They may be a darker or lighter skin colour to other parts of the body. This is all normal.
